The 2nd Annual Space Weather Community Operations Workshop (SpWxCOW) will bring together commercial, agency and university Space Weather operational personnel in a 2-day meeting to promote a robust data exchange capacity within the Space Weather enterprise. Participants will share common operational problems and solutions as well as work toward developing common best practices, and eventually standards, for Space Weather operations.

Topic areas will cover operational activities from production, archiving, and distribution best practices to utilization expectations. Oral presentations and discussions in relation to reliability, maintainability, accessibility, and dependability qualities of space weather operations will include focus on:

  • Lessons from last workshop and challenges ahead
  • Metadata usage
  • Time reporting for machines and humans
  • Definitions of historical, nowcast, and forecast
  • Redundancy in hardware, software, and data streams
  • Upgrades and Versioning methodologies
  • Data organization for producers and users
  • Algorithm linkage methodologies, both COTS and institutional
  • Distributed network implementation and proprietary control
  • Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) in system development
  • Uncertainty and Metrics in specification and forecasts
  • Liability, quality, and safety in operations
