Tracing the history of the formation and evolution of galaxies is a fundamental step to understand the evolution of the Universe. The chemical and dynamical evolution of galaxies is traced by the chemical abundances and kinematics in resolved stellar popula-tions. The best laboratory where to start this kind of analysis is our own Galaxy and Local Group galaxies. In the near future, new and important results concerning distances, radial velocities, chemical abundances are expected from ongoing and future large surveys (RAVE, OGLE, VISTA, Gaia, APOGEE, HERMES, GES) and future large telescopes (ELT, ALMA, JWST).The study of local galaxies allows us to perform an astroarchaeological approach leading to the first evolutionary phases of galaxies and Universe, and therefore to impose important constraints on the first stars, early galaxy formation and reionization.
