The talk will describe the origins of the Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO), and Arthur Clarke’s important role in popularising the concept of the GEO satellite. It will then describe the multiple, critical services that this orbit is currently being used to provide, by both civil and military users, and then look forward to some of the fascinating GEO concepts that have been proposed for the future.
