In anticipation of the first JWST call for proposals in late 2017 the European Space Agency is organizing a series of workshops to engage and inform the astronomical community. The first workshop in this series will take place September 26-28, 2016 at ESA's European Space Astronomy Center (ESAC) near Madrid. This 2 1/2 day workshop will showcase the capabilities of the JWST science instruments and their expected in-orbit performance, based on the results from the cryogenic test campaign currently conducted at GSFC. It aims to help prospective JWST users to select the best observing modes to achieve their science goals. For this purpose, a number of experts will be available to answer community questions on all JWST observing modes.

This workshop is the first in a series of meetings to take place in Europe. The intent is to directly and locally engage astronomers based in Europe, thus complementing a similar series organized by STScI for the North American community. Two additional ESA workshops will be held before the JWST launch :

ESAC 2017 JWST WORKSHOP - Planning your JWST Observations - [get set] (Summer 2017)
ESAC 2018 JWST WORKSHOP - JWST Data reduction and analysis tools - [go !] (Spring 2018)
