›Matching Space Capability to the Needs of Rail Freight and Infrastructure – Now and Next
The Satellite Applications Catapult on behalf of the UK Space Agency invites key rail stakeholders and Space Sector SMEs to a workshop at their state-of-the-art facility, at Harwell, Oxfordshire on Wednesday 2nd October.
The purpose is to:
- Demonstrate to a selected UK rail audience, the current and upcoming capabilities of the UK’s cutting-edge space sector.
- Confirm the relevant needs of rail stakeholders for today and tomorrow.
- Explore the most promising matches between capability and need.
What next?
- The outputs will then be quickly taken forward in a series of deep dives to fully define and validate the opportunities.
- Following this, selected stakeholders will be invited to a commercialisation workshop to close the gap between verified opportunity and investable solution.
What does success look like?
Anything from new R&D initiatives to here-and-now procurement and partnering opportunities.
What can space do?
Space capabilities broadly fall into three categories:
- Connect – communications, data and internet of things
- Earth Observation – insight on geographic locations
- Track – finding and tracking moving objects
All underpinned by today’s fast-moving technologies such as cyber security, big data, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things.
Did you know?
Satellite costs are plummeting. This is making cutting edge capabilities available on a commercial basis that can compete or even beat terrestrial solutions.
- Imagine – your own dedicated satellite that cost-effectively tracks your assets’ condition, location and status.
- Imagine – continuous communications at a cost and bandwidth to rival 5G.
- Imagine – emissions monitoring systems that automatically optimise your carbon footprint
Wednesday 2nd October 2019 at 09:30 – 13:00 – we look forward to seeing you!
