VH-RODA: Very High-resolution Radar & Optical Data Assessment workshop

The Very High-resolution Radar & Optical Data Assessment (VH-RODA) workshop will be held in Frascati, Italy from 18 to 22 November 2019. The workshop, hosted by ESA/ESRIN, will provide an open forum for the presentation and discussion of the current status and future developments related to the calibration and validation of space borne very high-resolution SAR and optical sensors and data products.

There are a growing number of public and commercial providers of high resolution (i.e. better than 10 metres) space-borne Earth Observation data. Key to using data from these new sources is a good understanding of their characteristics, how they are calibrated, and their quality and technical capabilities.

The Very High-resolution Radar & Optical Data Assessment (VH-RODA) workshop will address the quality and capability of very high-resolution SAR and optical instruments from public and commercial remote sensing platforms. The workshop will focus on the exchange of information regarding data quality, instrument calibration and characterization methodologies, related procedures, on-board systems and needed ground-based infrastructures.

This event is planned as a technical forum for discussing remote sensing systems and the data quality, calibration and product validation challenges they face. It will also provide an opportunity for face-to-face knowledge exchange among highly specialised entities, ranging from satellite operators to instrument technical teams and product validation institutions.

The VH-RODA workshop is part of ESA's continuing commitment to remote sensing technology as an important tool in providing information to address critical science and societal matters.

Note that the VH-RODA workshop will be organised consecutively with the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) SAR Subgroup, Synthetic Aperture Radar Workshop 2019 (CEOS SAR 2019). The CEOS SAR 2019 workshop will focus on current and future issues related to the calibration and validation of space borne SAR sensors and data products.
