›Space Cafe Tokyo Online - September 2020
Every month, we have Space Cafe Tokyo at Good Heavens British Bar in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. However, due to the COVID-19 situation, we have decided to hold events via Zoom and YouTube Live for now. Please gather in front of your computer/tablet/smartphone with drinks!
" The dark side of the universe."
Ever wondered why we need dark energy and dark matter? Dark energy and dark matter are two mysteries of fundamental physics that have been revealed by studying the cosmos. Come along to this Space Cafe Tokyo to hear Prof. Tamara Davis (University of Queensland) talk about the multiple lines of evidence that convince us the dark side of the universe is real. After this talk you should understand why astrophysicists are so sure that the vast majority of the universe is made up of stuff we can’t see or touch.
Speaker's info:
Professor Tamara Davis is an astrophysicist searching for the elusive “dark energy” that’s accelerating the universe. Highlights of her 20 years in the field are measuring time-dilation in distant supernovae, helping make one of the largest maps of the distribution of galaxies in the universe, and using astrophysics to test new theories of gravity. Her accolades include the Astronomical Society of Australia's young researcher award, the Australian Academy of Science’s medal for female leadership in science, and an Order of Australia.
