›Biennial European Astrobiology Conference (BEACON)
The Biennial European Astrobiology Conference (BEACON) brings scientists and experts in the Astrobiology field from Europe and beyond. BEACON will take place at the La Palma &Teneguia Princess Hotel on La Palma Island (Canary Islands, Spain) from 25 April – 1 May 2022.
La Palma offers a multitude of relevant research infrastructures (telescopes) and locations (active volcanoes, recent lava fields, Mars-analogue landscapes, etc.) We will visiting many of these sites during our conference excursion.
A field trip to other Astrobiologically interesting field sites on other islands will be organised after the conference as well as an optional after conference walk along the “Volcano route” (Ruta de los Volcanes) spanning several active volcanoes above 1600m altitude. Outreach events for the general public will also be held.
The programme starts on April 25th in the morning and ends on May 1st in the evening. With around 16 invited talks (30 min) and 30 contributed talks (15 minutes), in addition to a poster session that will take place on the 25th and the 26th. On the 29th there will be an excursion to the Caldeira de Taburiente and the Gran Telescópio Canarias and the Telescopio Nazionale Galilei.
A walk on the close-by Teneguia lava field on the 27th will be organised, as well as an after conference-walk on the Ruta de Volcanes on Sunday the 1st of May.
