›Skylab: Designing the First Large-Scal Space Station
Speaker: Colin Ledsome
Skylab was the first real space-station. It was the only surviving part of the Apollo Applications Program, intended to make use of the vehicles developed for the trip to the Moon. Colin Ledsome worked on the design phase at the Marshal Space Flight Center when the first Apollo flights were taking place. He will explain some of the design challenges and how they were solved. He will also review the original launch and the three crew missions. This will include the efforts to save the station after the meteoroid protection shield fell off during launch.
