›SpaceRocks - Uplink 2 - Yuri's Night Special

Despite the cancellations of many Yuri’s Night events due to the current pandemic, including the Space Late at London’s Science Museum which we were due to be a part of,  we’re overjoyed to see the remarkable celebration continuing online with a massive online event on Saturday, April 11th.

To preview it all Yuri’s Night co-creator Loretta Hildago Whitesides and UK Yuri Night’s organiser Harriet Brettle will be joining us for the second instalment of our all-new livestream Uplink! Co-founded by Loretta Hildago Whitesides, Yuri’s Night is a global celebration of humanity’s past, present, and future in space. Yuri’s Night parties and events are held around the world every April in commemoration of Yuri Gagarin becoming the first human to venture into space on April 12, 1961, and the inaugural launch of the first Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981. Loretta is also an astrobiologist and has worked in the NASA Astronaut Office, undertaken research on plant life in the Canadian Arctic, dove to titanic depths of the ocean with Avatar director James Cameron, floated weightless as a Flight Director for Zero G Corp,  and is a Virgin Galactic Founder Astronaut!

Harriet is an organiser and co-ordinator of UK-based Yuri’s Night events and works as Head of Business Analysis at Astroscale and co-chair of the Space Generation Advisory Council. She is also a co-founder of the London Space Network, organising monthly networking events to strengthen the UK space community. Harriet has a keen interest in public engagement with space science, interdisciplinary collaboration and the future of the new space economy.

As usual, the Uplink will be hosted by Space Rocks co-founder, Alexander Milas and ESA’s Senior Advisor for Science & Exploration, Mark McCaughrean.
