Conference Announcement - Astrochemical Frontiers - Quarantine Edition

June 15 - 19, 2020 - online

8 - 11:30 am US Eastern Time (12:00-15:30 GMT)

Sponsored by IAU Commission H2 Steering Committee: E. Bergin (President), P. Caselli (Vice-President), J. Jorgensen (Secretary), Y. Aikawa, M. Cunningham, W. Geppert, K.Öberg, T. Millar (Ex-officio)

Dear Fellow Astrochemists - this has been a trying time for all of us throughout the world.  There are so many layers to the situation we find ourselves in that the lack of scientific sharing in conferences seems trite.   Despite this, we know that there is some wonderful work by numerous scientists that would traditionally be  highlighted in an international forum during the summer.  Further, there are so many early career scholars who deserve the opportunity to showcase their work.  IAU Commission H2 offers this opportunity via a remote conference (general details below) to give a remote talk, participate in remote question and answers - and continue to share the science that unites us all.

In terms of topics we value all work in our interdisciplinary field  we therefore encourage you to apply for a talk and the SOC, comprised by the steering committee  above, will create the schedule.   We anticipate over-subscription to our 60 speaking slots and will focus the content on frontier/field-leading topics whether theory, observation, or the lab. We also will favor early career scholars as this might be the only astrochemistry conference until the fall.

Format

Meeting will be held on Zoom hosted by Ted Bergin at the start and then by other members of the committee who will chair sessions.

Talks will be 15 minutes (10 min talk/5 for questions) Please adhere to this schedule - keep your slides light such that we can manage this remotely.

Schedule each day

  • 8-8:10 - setup and logistics
  • 8:10-9:10  4 x 15 minute talks
  • 9:20-10:20   4 x 15 minute talks
  • 10:30-11:30 4 x 15 minute talks

We will manage the schedule such that talks from Asia will be placed in early slots and US west coast late slots. All talks will be recorded and placed on the conference web site. We stress that accepting to give a talk means that you accept the talk being recorded - no exceptions.    Please give references for all your figures given that these talks will be hosted online.    For those watching recordings we will enable Q&A with the speakers during the week of the meeting.

  • Attendance to the conference will be by admitted registrants only.
  • Abstract submission is due May 20 , 2020 by 9pm EST
  • Registration is due June 8, 2020 by 9pm EST
  • No registration Fee
  • Talks will be announced on June 5th.

We wish you the very best to you and your families, IAU Commission H2
