Day 1 14:00 - 18:00 / Day 2 14:00 - 18:00

Society today, in both a civil and military context, is increasingly reliant on the availability of services provided by systems and infrastructure strategically placed in orbit around the Earth, and therefore protection of our environment is no longer limited to Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and terrain, but must now include space, for while plastic is seen as damaging the oceans and ocean life, space debris may one day constrain the future exploitation of space for the generations to come.

This ground-breaking event organised by the Space Specialist Group, will now take place as an online conference on the afternoons of the 9 - 10 September 2020.

Topics to be covered include:

1. The emergence of Space Domain Awareness (SDA), its scope and significance in monitoring and acting to protect space infrastructure

2. The current state of the art in Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) for detection of the increasing number of in-orbit conjunctions and potential collisions, from both an academic and industrial point of view.

3. The need for and examples of International Cooperation on a global scale, both civil and military to be able to safeguard the space environment.

4. The relevance and suitability of International Policies and Regulations related to space debris, how they should evolve and how they can be enforced.
