British Spacepower and the Integrated Review

20 November 2020, 12:30 to 13:15 GMT

Join us for the launch of the new research paper from the Freeman Air and Space Institute - ‘British Spacepower and the Integrated Review’ by Dr Bleddyn Bowen.

Increased policy interest in British spacepower is happening within a tempestuous political context and at a time where space technology continues to spread to more actors, including those that might potentially be hostile towards the UK. The delayed Integrated Review claims to be the first UK defence review to pay specific attention to spacepower, and there has never been a greater need for a clear space-centric perspective on what spacepower can and should offer for defence policy, security, and wider political goals today.

Dr Bowen's paper explores what can and should spacepower offer for British national security and defence policy in the context of the integrated review, Brexit and the post-Covid economy.

Dr Bowen will introduce his paper in conversation with expert panelists including Dr Peter Watkins, former Director General (Strategy & International), Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Katherine Courtney, former Chief Executive of the UK Space Agency, followed by a question and answer session.
